Museo Minero de Tierra Amarilla (Atacama, Chile)

Today we're going to visit the Tierra Amarilla Mining Museum. One of the most interesting museums in the region, and certainly the most comprehensive on the history of mining in the Atacama. The museum is located in an authentic setting, in the Punta de Cobre/Agustinas mining district in Tierra Amarilla, 20 kilometers south of Copiapó. At the museum, I'll meet with Miss Elizabeth Pereira, who will show us the beauty of this museum. The Tierra Amarilla Mining Museum was born from the initiative of the Carola Mining Company, specifically a group of 14 Romanian geologists, who, starting in 2007, began planning the site and traveling across the north of the country, collecting samples. Today, the museum belongs to the Tierra Amarilla Foundation. The main part of the museum is the historic mansion, the administrative building of the former Agustinas mine. It's worth mentioning that the restoration of the mansion was carried out in accordance with current protocols for historic buildings, using appropriate materials and suitable techniques. The museum's location is also noteworthy: here, large-scale mining, medium-scale mining, small-scale mining, and historical mining meet. The Transito Mine Museum is located a couple of kilometers away. The museum has eight rooms with different themes, as well as a large courtyard with a large exhibit area and a mining machinery area. The rooms were named after important historical figures in the mining industry in Atacama. The Tierra Amarilla Mining Museum offers an excellent overview of the history of mining, the development of mining in Atacama, and geology and mineralogy. All in an authentic space, with an educational approach to the former. This visit is a must for all history and geology lovers.
