Las Tres Cosas Que Lao Tzu Nunca Dejaría Ir — Tao Te Ching Cap. 67
"If you could keep only three things in life — three and nothing else — what would they be? Laozi answered that question two thousand five hundred years ago. And his answer includes nothing we'd expect. In chapter 67 of the Tao Te Ching, that ancient voice says he holds three treasures he keeps and protects: compassion, frugality, and not daring to be ahead of the world. Three words most English translations slightly miss. In this essay we open the original Chinese — cí (慈), jiǎn (儉) and bù gǎn wéi tiānxià xiān (不敢為天下先) — to see what Laozi actually said and why these three treasures are the three pillars of any relationship that deserves to last. At minute 14 there's a personal reflection on which of the three is hardest. And at the end, a 3-minute practice to bring one of these treasures into a real relationship this week. This is not spiritual coaching or self-help. It's Taoist philosophy applied to everyday experience. ⏱ Key moments: 0:00 — The question of the three treasures 1:30 — Full reading of Tao Te Ching Ch. 67 5:00 — Cí (慈): the compassion that does not project 6:00 — Jiǎn (儉): frugality as economy of force 7:00 — Bù gǎn (不敢): not daring, the most radical of the three 12:00 — Three nuances most translations lose 14:00 — Personal reflection: which of the three is hardest 17:30 — Guided practice: choose one treasure for this week 23:00 — Closing and return to the opening question 📚 Sources and concepts: · Tao Te Ching, chapter 67 — D.C.
