How Bad Was The M551 Sheridan?

The American M551 Sheridan Armored Reconnaissance / Airborne Assault Vehicle (AR/AAV) was a light tank created during the Cold War. Designed to replace the successful albeit awkward M41 Walker Bulldog, the Sheridan was to be both amphibious and air deployable. It would also leverage a new weapon system known as a gun launcher, which could fire both missiles and conventional rounds. Unfortunately for the M551, this novel weapon would spell doom for its service record. Though the Sheridan is seen as an abysmal mess, it did have some merit.
