WHEN GREECE RETURNS TO ITS OWN HOMELAND

There are moments when you realize that tradition is not something preserved only in museums or confined to the pages of history books. It lives within people, in their memories, their songs, their dances, and the stories they pass from one generation to the next. The 58th Karaiskakeia Festival, held these past few days in Karditsa in honor of one of Greece's greatest heroes, Georgios Karaiskakis, brought together people from every corner of Greece, as well as from many parts of the world. Among them were members of the Greek community from Australia, whose presence was especially meaningful. About 55 years ago, on June 14, 1971, a ten-year-old boy left his village of Myrini, Karditsa, together with his parents, beginning the difficult journey of emigration. That boy was Alkis Manasis. Like thousands of Greeks of that era, he sought a better life in distant Australia. Yet he never truly left Greece behind. He carried it with him in his heart. As the years passed, he built a family and founded a Greek traditional dance school that today has around 700 students. It has become a true center of Hellenism, where second-, third-, and even fourth-generation Greek children learn not only the steps of traditional dances, but also the history, spirit, and identity of their ancestors' homeland. Today, this remarkable work is being carried on by his son, Demosthenis Manasis, together with his wife Alexia, proving that when values are passed from one generation to the next, tradition is never lost. That afternoon offered a scene that is difficult to put into words. Around the same table sat three generations of Greeks living abroad. Alkis, who left Myrini as a young boy 55 years ago in search of a better future in Australia. His son, Demosthenis, and his wife, Alexia, who continue his life's work with the same passion and dedication. And beside them were Alkis' grandchildren, young Alkis and Zacharoula—third-generation Greek Australians who have grown up thousands of kilometers away from Greece, yet carry within them the same love for their homeland, the Greek language, traditional dances, and Greek customs. At that moment, I realized that Hellenism is preserved not simply by ancestry, but by the values that each generation chooses to pass on to the next. We at Grill Philosophy (Mallioras Bros.) had the pleasure and honor of welcoming Demosthenis, his family, and fifteen young dancers from their school to our factory. We prepared a traditional Greek feast with kontosouvli, meze, and authentic flavors that remind every Greek of home. Because hospitality is about much more than food - it is the way we say, "Welcome." Greece is not merely a place on the map. It is a heritage that lives in our souls and is passed from one generation to the next. Finally, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to our childhood friend Dimitris Angelis for sharing such meaningful historical knowledge and storytelling with the children; to Karditsa Livestreaming for broadcasting the event live; and to our fellow villagers, Aris and Grigoris Psaris—third-generation livestock farmers and second-generation butchers—for generously providing exceptional-quality meats and sausages. Their contribution helped us offer the children an authentic Greek table of hospitality, worthy of our traditions and of the love they carried with them from the other side of the world. ➧ FIND our GRILLS here: https://www.amberq.gr/en ➧ FIND our SEASONING BLENDS on our E-SHOP: https://www.grillphilosophy.gr/en/ Contact information: е-mail: [email protected] Fb group: Grill philosophy Fb page: Greek bbq club Instagram: Grill_philosophy TikTok: grill_philosophy ➧ Watch more grill recipes here: Greek SOUVLAKI the real experience - quick, tender, and delicious!:    • Greek SOUVLAKI the real experience - quick...   Greek tzatziki sauce recipe: https://bit.ly/3ciDs9v Greek souvlaki - old traditional recipe: https://bit.ly/3C6eJ2C Greek pork gyros traditional old recipe and preparation: https://bit.ly/3H78kYF Homemade gyros with mutton meat: https://bit.ly/3knQfvF Homemade chicken gyros with curry: https://bit.ly/3wB1Tbn Homemade beef gyros: https://bit.ly/3c47QUU How to make and grill beef patties - video seminar: https://bit.ly/3HgX0JE ➧ Watch wood-fired oven recipes here: Greek Moussaka: https://bit.ly/3EdO46R Oxtail stew giouvetsi with Greek pasta: https://bit.ly/3n6zJlj Greek fasolada (white beans) soup recipe: https://bit.ly/3on0xgv Greek patsas soup: https://bit.ly/3ktxJC6 Zucchini Greek pie "Mpatzina" Thessalias: https://bit.ly/3korrDG Mutton with trahana in the wood-fired oven: https://bit.ly/30n30zN Spetzofai (sausage, peppers, and tomatoes): https://bit.ly/3ojplGv The song was written for our channel by Yiannis Karasavvas: https://bit.ly/3FWfAZ6 Thank you for watching! #australia #greece #hellenism #grillphilosophy #bbq #grill
