A huge crater in the middle of Lviv region, visible from a drone. At first glance, it looks like an ordinary sand quarry. But if you dig deeper, it becomes clear: this story is not only about sand, equipment and trucks. In a new investigation, we went to the village of Trostyanets, Stryi district, where the quarry of Agrobudservis LLC operates. For years, a trail of lawsuits, millions in damages, issues with the forest, criminal proceedings and industrial tragedies has been dragging around this enterprise. The court ordered Agrobudservis to compensate for more than 40 million hryvnias in damages for illegal sand mining on the lands of the state forest fund. This is about tens of thousands of cubic meters of sand - a scale that is difficult not to notice. But did the community receive this money? Why are people still waiting for money after the court decision? And has this changed anything in the work of the quarry itself? During the trip, we visited the prosecutor's office, the Mykolaiv City Council, near the quarry itself, raised the drone, compared what we saw with the cadastral map and satellite images. And we saw new questions: areas with signs of logging, cleared territories, traces of equipment and boundaries that require verification. That is why we called the police to the site and wrote a statement about a possible offense. But the most difficult episode in this story is the death of an employee. In 2021, an excavator driver died at this quarry. He was covered with soil while performing work. A special investigation recognized this case as related to production. The court found the guilty party, but there was no real punishment - only a probationary period. A separate block of the investigation is who is behind Agrobudservis. The company's ownership structure includes enterprises related to Onur Group - a major player in road construction in Ukraine. And road construction is not only tenders and asphalt. It is also raw materials: sand, crushed stone, concrete, quarries and access to the subsoil. We also analyze the group's broader interest in Ukrainian deposits: graphite, granite, sand quarries and million-dollar special permits. Interest in the subsoil itself is not a crime. But when one of these assets is surrounded by court decisions, uncompensated damages, forest issues and the death of an employee, society has the right to know who controls these processes and why the responsibility still seems smaller than the scale of the crater itself.
