How to Sew French Seams & Use the Taut Sewing Method
When making drapery (or even a shirt) where the front and back of your seams will be visible the prettiest seam you can make is a French seam. This sewing technique encases the raw edges of your fabric inside the seam leaving no trace of threads or selvages. There are a few extra steps involved to get a beautiful French seam, but the effort is worth it. This professional seam is typically used for sheers but in this project, we were making an unlined ripplefold drapery using a heavier weight fabric that would hang in an office as a room divider. This is why we wanted the back to be as pretty as the front. In this video you will see all the steps needed to make a French seam. You'll also get a lesson in "taut sewing". Taut sewing is a great habit to develop when sewing long pieces of fabric together (as we often do for drapery). When taut sewing you can eliminate pins and end up with perfectly flat seams and even edges from top to bottom. It not only is a beautiful seam, but it is a huge time saver in the workroom and saves you from sticking yourself with pins. ►► SUBSCRIBE: / @tullydraperyshop ►► PATREON: / tullydraperyshop ►► INSTAGRAM: / tullydraperyshop ►► WEBSITE: https://tullydraperyshop.com/ #TullyDraperyShop #HowTo #LongDrapes #LongCurtains About Tully Drapery Shop: Tully Drapery Shop is an award-winning custom drapery workroom/ boutique drapery design shop.
