HPCA Change Under Pressure Webinar 4 Neuroscience & A Positive Mindset
HPCA Change Under Pressure Webinar - Neuroscience & a Positive Mindset This session looks at what happens in the brain when change is not chosen but imposed. David explains why feelings of uncertainty, loss of control, and threat are completely normal responses at the neurological level, and how understanding these mechanisms can help us regain clarity and stability. Participants will be guided through the neuroscience of stress, fear, and identity disruption, and shown simple, practical ways to support themselves through challenging transitions with confidence and compassion. This session is particularly relevant for NHS colleagues facing job insecurity, role changes, or organisational turbulence. It will help people who: • Feel anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected due to uncertainty. • Are struggling with motivation or confidence during this period. • Want to understand why their thoughts and emotions feel different right now. • Need ways to maintain wellbeing, focus, and balance while navigating imposed change. • Are looking for evidence-based guidance that complements the narrative from earlier sessions in the HPCA series Attendees will gain reassurance that their responses are not personal failings but predictable neurological patterns, and they will learn how to work with their brain rather than against it. Participants will leave with: • An understanding of the brain’s threat-response systems and why imposed change feels destabilising. • Insight into why uncertainty amplifies self-doubt and negative internal narratives. • Practical tools for calming the nervous system and regaining a sense of agency, even when circumstances cannot be controlled. • Techniques for reframing unhelpful stories and anchoring attention in more constructive patterns, supporting the themes introduced by the previous presenters. • Simple BTFA principles they can apply immediately to improve clarity, decision making, and emotional balance. This will be a reassuring and empowering session designed to help NHS colleagues protect their wellbeing and sense of self during a very difficult period of transition. Ahead of the webinar, we would like to share a short and useful reflective exercise that you can complete in advance. https://hpcafilestore.blob.core.windo...
