Brandon Teena - How Bigotry & Ignorance Led To 3 Executions

Hello everyone! Welcome to the last case for November and it is an especially tragic one today, so be prepared. Today, we’ll be talking about the awful case of Brandon Teena, who was a transgender man who was executed because of who he was. To make it even worse, not only was Brandon murdered, so were 2 other people alongside him. There’s a lot to get into with this case and although this case does have a book written about it, it’s by one of my all-time least favorite authors, Aphrodite Jones. Idk, she gives me Nancy Grace vibes and I just don’t really care for her. I read many criticisms of her book that said she often misgendered Brandon and really hyper-focused on his trans status without doing the proper work in representing it. Idk how true those criticisms are but considering she was also criticized for her book on Shanda Sharer, and how she really hyper-focused on the lesbian aspect of that case, I chose not to purchase her book or even read it. Instead, I relied on all kinds of magazine and newspaper articles, some of which were written by members of the LGBT community. I will also be referring to Brandon as male and use he/him pronouns, considering he lived a huge chunk of his life as male, as well as identifying as male.
