More and more people in Germany can no longer live entirely without assistance – but there's a shortage of skilled workers in the nursing sector. Nursing services are therefore also relying on workers from abroad. In our new documentary, we follow trainee Nazlije, 27, from Kosovo, on her early shift. How does she cope with shift work and time pressure? And what cultural differences play a role? According to projections by the Federal Statistical Office, Germany is expected to face a shortage of between 280,000 and 690,000 nursing staff by 2049. The reason: The number of people requiring care is constantly increasing. Currently, around one in five people working in nursing is from abroad. To make the nursing profession more attractive, the so-called "generalist nursing training" has been in place for five years. This means that the distinction between hospital and geriatric nursing is no longer made.
