Living With a Local Family in Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 | Village Life, Local Market & Homemade Food This was one of the most authentic experiences I had in Sri Lanka. I started the day staying with a local host family who welcomed me like their own. For breakfast, I tried a traditional Sri Lankan dish called Kiri Bath (made with rice and coconut milk), served with onion chutney, chili paste, and chicken curry. Later, I explored a busy local market that surprisingly felt very similar to markets in India. From vegetables and clothes to daily household items, I got a glimpse of everyday life in Sri Lanka. I also compared local prices of fruits and vegetables with India and found many things to be quite affordable. During the journey, I noticed a strong Chinese presence in the area, with many workers involved in local infrastructure projects like tunnel construction. Back at the host’s home, I got a tour of their farm where they grow spices and plants like black pepper, cinnamon, lemon, and curry leaves.
