PWM vs MPPT: Real Solar Test Shows the Difference

In this video, I compare PWM and MPPT solar charge controllers using a real solar panel, a 12V battery, and actual outdoor measurements. Both tests use the same panel, the same battery, and the same wiring. The only major difference is the charge controller. The main idea is simple: a solar panel does not produce maximum power at any voltage. There is a specific point where voltage times current is highest — the maximum power point. A PWM controller typically pulls the solar panel down close to battery voltage. An MPPT controller can allow the panel to operate closer to its maximum power point and convert that power more efficiently into battery charging current. In this test, I first measure the panel’s real maximum power point using an electronic load.
