This time it's Kawasaki's KZ1000 shaft Vs Yamaha's 1980 XS1100 Special. It is difficult to imagine today, but the Yamaha XS1100 was a game changer when it was introduced in 1978. The XS1100s massive power output made it the quickest production motorcycle at the time of its introduction - even with shaft drive! Kawasaki responded in 1979 with their KZ1000 ST (shaft). With big, air-cooled, 8-valve, 4-cylinder motors, 5-speed transmissions, shaft drive, and triple disc brakes, these bikes are similar on paper. They were both designed as (or based on) touring machines. What are these two classic big-bore tourers like to ride out on the road? Let's find out together!
