Russian forces purportedly take Georgian prisoners and US humvees in port

Various of Russian convoy on the way out of Poti port pulling US Humvee along STORYLINE Russian soldiers have taken purported Georgian servicemen prisoner at a key port and commandeered US Humvees, but elsewhere made limited moves toward reducing tensions with a POW exchange in Igoeti and pulling back some troops from the strategic city of Gori. In Poti, on the Black Sea, an AP Television crew filmed Russian trucks and armoured personnel carriers leaving the port with about 20 blindfolded and handcuffed men riding on them. A port spokesman said the men were Georgian soldiers, but AP has not been able to independently confirm this. The Russians also took with them four US Humvees that were reportedly awaiting shipment back to the United States after being used for training purposes in joint US-Georgian military exercises earlier this summer. The deputy head of Russia's general staff, Colonel General Anatoly Nogovitsyn, said Russian forces planned to remain in Poti until a local administration was formed, but gave no further details.
