Heidi Reichinnek was born in Merseburg in 1988 and grew up in Obhausen, Saxony-Anhalt. After graduating from high school, she studied Middle Eastern Studies and Political Science at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg from 2007 to 2011. During this time, she also spent time in Cairo from September 2010 to June 2011, where she witnessed the uprisings that began as part of what was initially known as the "Arab Spring." She then completed her master's degree at the Center for Near and Middle Eastern Studies in Marburg, where she worked as a research assistant in a research project for the German Federal Foreign Office on Islamism and Salafism in Arab transition societies. As Heidi Reichinnek subsequently wanted to move into the social sector, she began working as a language and cultural affairs specialist in a facility for unaccompanied minor refugees, where she taught German, among other subjects. Through a project to strengthen democracy and prevent radicalization, the Bundestag member entered youth welfare, a field in which she remained until her most recent career. Her responsibilities ranged from project funding acquisition to supporting refugee families and school support. She joined DIE LINKE. in September 2015, and from November 2016 until 2021, she served as a member of the Left Party's parliamentary group in the Osnabrück City Council. In 2017, she became the state spokesperson for Linksjugend ['solid] Niedersachsen (Links Youth] Lower Saxony, a position she relinquished in 2019 when Heidi Reichinnek was elected as one of the leaders of DIE LINKE. in Lower Saxony. In 2021, she was elected to the Bundestag on the Lower Saxony state list. Her work encompasses child, youth, family, and women's policy. As spokesperson for women's policy, she was also a member of the parliamentary group's executive committee during the founding of DIE LINKE. In 2024, Heidi Reichinnek was elected chairwoman of the Left Party in the Bundestag and nominated as the Left Party's top candidate for the 2025 federal election. Interested in more best-ofs?
