The Tungabhadra reservoir is experiencing a severe drought-like situation this season. Unlike previous years, when water storage levels were at their peak by June, this year's inflow remains uncertain even as July approaches. The reservoir, which supplies drinking and irrigation water to three states, is running critically low, with only 9 TMC of water currently stored — largely due to the impact of the El Niño weather phenomenon. Authorities have officially announced that there is insufficient water to support Kharif crop irrigation this season.
