The mayor has reaffirmed his commitment to protecting citizens' interests through legal action. Currently, the municipality is pursuing a firm legal case against the Kansas City Southern railway concessionaire due to the damage caused to the drainage system in the area. Meanwhile, Dr. Montes issued a respectful yet forceful appeal to the Guanajuato State Secretariat of Public Works (SOP). The mayor questioned the lack of an effective response to the 25 million pesos that the state agency reported for state roads. According to the mayor, the support was insufficient, as only a temporary crew was sent to the Capulín highway, which was later withdrawn to the municipality of Tierra Blanca. “I continue to ask that they pay attention to us and help us, because the main connecting roads, such as the bypasses and the exits to San Luis de la Paz and Highway 57, are under state jurisdiction and require immediate attention,” the mayor stated. To combat the backlog of road infrastructure, the City Council approved the Public Works Program, allocating an initial 4 million pesos for ordinary and extraordinary works. In a historic decision, the municipality opted not to hire external companies or contractors, assuming responsibility for the execution of the projects with its own operational staff. To enhance this reach, the administration will acquire basic equipment, including a light crane adapted with asphalt emulsion devices, allowing for direct asphalt purchases. This strategy will enable work on roads in the municipal seat and critical sections such as Ojo de Agua, as well as the road from Las Adjuntas to La Canela. While municipal crews carry out cutting, blasting, and deep cleaning work on the road to Cinco de Mayo—taking advantage of the rains following the worst drought in the last 50 years—the Mayor announced long-term solutions such as replacing the asphalt with hydraulic concrete or cement-set stone to guarantee durability against moisture. Additionally, a specialized technical plan will be implemented on the ring road and the exit to San Diego to optimize traffic flow. In his recent meeting in Guanajuato City with the delegate of the Federal SICT, Ms. Anabel Leticia, the municipality has successfully joined a federal program that includes the complete resurfacing of 4.5 kilometers, from Highway 57 to the city entrance. These works, crucial for resolving flooding issues in front of companies like Mission Hills and Alpla, are scheduled to begin between the end of July and the beginning of August. Dr. Montes de la Vega concluded by emphasizing that, although the municipality has fulfilled its state commitments stemming from the 8 billion peso loan—of which 4 billion were allocated to the Solís Dam and the remainder distributed regionally—the credit for the fieldwork, management, and design belongs to the local administration.
