Using AI to collect data

The single question I get asked the most is how we make the Oregon by the Numbers reports. So I'm going to show you, by making "by the numbers" reports for other US states from scratch. And here's the twist: I'm doing it with AI. This is the first livestream in a three-part series where my friend Claude and I build data-driven reports end to end. I've used AI for pieces of the report-making process before, but never to make reports from start to finish. I don't know exactly how it'll go, which is what makes it fun. In this session, we set up our project and tackle the least glamorous (but most important) part of any report: collecting, cleaning, and tidying the data. What we cover: • Setting up an R + Quarto project for a multi-state report • Collecting raw data from public sources • Cleaning and tidying messy data with AI as a pair programmer • Where AI helps, and where it gets things wrong This series is part of the run-up to Ally, my soon-to-open program teaching you to harness the power of AI with R. If you can't make it, all three sessions will live on the channel.
