Come and explore the industrial centre in Petite-Rosselle in Lorraine Musée Les Mineurs Wendel Located at the very heart of the former administrative building of the Wendel headquarters, the Musée Les Mineurs Wendel museum offers visitors the chance to explore the history of Lorraine‘s coal mines whilst taking a closer look at the place of the miner in these symbolic surroundings. The museum houses including over 160 objects and models, audio documents and videos and countless photographs and documents that will take you on a journey through the history of Lorraine’s relationship with coal and the trans-border region, the daily life of the miner and his family,… Thanks to the various sound posts dotted around the site playing authentic accounts in the form of sound bites, visitors can experience the day-to-day life of the miner in the Hall du Mineur (‘Miners’ Hall’), the Salle des Pendus (‘Hanging Room’) and the pithead baths. All information and exhibits are available in German, French and English in order for you to experience at first hand the interesting world of the miners at that time. La Mine Wendel La Mine Wendel offers visitors the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the various coal mining techniques used up until the last French mine closed in 2004. Take a ride in the cage, as so many miners have before you, as you journey down into the mine with the ‘black faces’ of the 21st Century to visit their truly unique place of work. Saint Barbara, the patron saint of miners, will be waiting for you at the bottom to show you around the various mining tunnels, where you will find colossal machinery (heading and winning machines, shearers, etc.) and other equipment in real-life working situations.
