A version of a balanced transformer (balun) for matching a symmetrical load to an asymmetrical power source. These transformers are primarily used to power symmetrical antennas with asymmetrical lines (coaxial cables). I came across this balun online, and those who have replicated this design have left very positive reviews. The balun is wound on a standard 1000NN ferrite ring and is easy to manufacture. It can be easily switched from 1:1 to 1:4 operation to transform the characteristic impedance. As an experiment, I built this balun using a ring from a computer power supply and tested its performance using a nanovna vector analyzer. The results were surprising.
