SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California Gov. Gavin Newsom delivered the closing remarks at the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) 2026 Spring Conference in Sacramento on May 7, 2026, held at the SAFE Credit Union Community Center. The annual event brings together water agencies from across the state that manage local water systems for communities. Newsom delivered closing remarks focusing on California's water infrastructure, challenges, and future, highlighting the critical work local water agencies have done since his time in office. After he was sworn into office on Jan. 7, 2019, Newsom issued an executive order with broad and ambitious strategies, leading to 142 actions that would help sustain California’s water, create infrastructure, and protect California communities. "California has embraced a more balanced and forward-looking approach to water policy — rejecting the false choice between protecting our water future and building the infrastructure we need. We’re taking an all-of-the-above approach by expanding water projects, restoring habitats, and improving water quality, because real progress comes from partnership, not polarization." Newsom stated.
