The Significance of Sudarshana Chakra Śrī Sudarśana Cakra is not an ordinary weapon. He is the powerful servant of the Supreme Lord. He protects the devotees, destroys irreligion, and removes all inauspiciousness. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From the Sudarshana Chakra Project Team The Sudarshana Chakra being commissioned for our temple is a unique piece that has been carefully developed over many months through collaboration between our Brisbane design team and traditional temple artisans (Sthapathyas). The Chakra has a diameter of 1 metre and weighs approximately 200 kg. It has been cast in Ashta-dhatu, the traditional sacred alloy used for important temple installations. A key objective of the project was to ensure authenticity. The design has been based on the traditional Sudarshana Chakra found at the Jagannath Puri Temple in India. It is a close replica. This approach was chosen because the heritage-inspired architecture of our temple aligns closely with this traditional design language, helping preserve the authenticity and spiritual significance of the installation. Significant effort was invested in identifying the right Sthapathya for the project. Once engaged, the Brisbane design team prepared a detailed Design Basis Specification outlining the structural and aesthetic requirements. The Sthapathya then produced clay models and prototypes to refine the proportions and ensure the design remained faithful to traditional temple architecture. As this will be the only Sudarshana Chakra of its kind installed in Brisbane, particular attention has been given to durability and longevity so that it may serve devotees and the community for generations to come. This project represents a beautiful collaboration between traditional temple craftsmanship and modern engineering, ensuring that the final installation is both authentic in form and robust in construction.
