The Red Canyon nature hike

Welcome to this weeks Israel video tour with David Hyman, your tour guide in Israel. The Red Canyon is located in the Eilat mountains region, about 15 KM north east of Eilat, on Rt 12 that connects Eilat and Shizafon junction. The Red Canyon hike is one of the most popular walks in the reagion because of its beauty, moderate level and the fun and challenge factor of climbing down the ladders in the deep and narrow gorge. The Red Canyon gets its name from the red sandstone rock formation , these rocks are not common in Israel , they appear only around Eilat mountains and a few can be spoted in the Machteshim area in the Negev. The walk is about 5 KM long and it takes about 1.5 hours. During the walk we had 2 exciting encounters: We met a young woman called Lital Ofir she is a fashion designer and a graduate of Shenkar school of design, and we also met a group of Philippine folks who chose the Red Canyon as the location to shoot photos of their kids who turned 14 and officialy became teen agers.
