Pelton and Crane LFT II Spring replacement - Don't make my mistakes

I am a dentist and have six dental chairs in my office. Each is equipped with a Pelton and Crane overhead light on a track. They are easily 20 years old. Last Saturday I heard what sounded like a spring breaking and one of the lights could no longer move up and down- it was stuck down. Once in my career I had this happen, and I called someone to change the spring. This time I figured I could do it myself. It took me four hours because of a few tips and tricks that I did not understand. You MUST watch this video first, if you plan to make the swap https://www.dcionline.com/support/vid... This video was made by the company that sells the replacement part, and is excellent- but makes it look easy. With the correct understanding it could be easy. Here is what you need to know: 1. You MUST purchase a proprietary tool - RPI part PCT615 regardless of the type of spring you are replacing. It is called a "spring tool" but its really not. 2. That tool adjusts rear of the aluminum BRACKET( rear knuckle) that the spring recesses into. That one fact alone would have saved me two hours. You MUST back off said bracket of tension with that tool before attempting to remove the screws holding the old spring, or you wont be able to remove the screws and will strip them like I did. This fact was extremely unclear. It's called a gas spring tool elsewhere, it appears that its only needed some times, and upon inspection of the new spring, there was noplace for that tool to engage, therefore I passed on purchasing it. Even if I did buy it, without understanding what it engages into and why, it would have served me no help. Hopefully this video helps someone. In the end, It's done- but could have been so much easier. If any of the other six break, I will buy the tool, and imaging it should take around 1 hour max to complete. good luck!
