This Place Blew Our Minds! | Lac de Sainte-Croix & Gorges du Verdon

After leaving the coast, we headed inland to one of the most breathtaking places we've visited so far, Lac de Sainte-Croix and the stunning Gorges du Verdon. Our first stop was a motorhome aire, Camping Car Park, perched above the lake with spectacular views and just a short (but steep!) walk through the beautiful village of Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon. With its bars, restaurants and incredible scenery, it was easy to see why this area is so popular, although Roger was a little disappointed that dogs aren't allowed on this side of the lake. Next, we moved across to Camping Les Ruisses, a peaceful and secluded campsite with the turquoise waters of the lake just across the road. This side was much more dog-friendly, and we loved exploring the nearby village and taking in the stunning surroundings. From swimming in crystal-clear water to visiting the jaw-dropping Gorges du Verdon, this place completely blew our minds. After taking early retirement to fulfil our lifelong dream of travelling full-time in a motorhome, we began our van life journey in the UK in July 2025, before heading through France and Spain. Sadly, our adventure was cut short when we had to return to the UK in October 2025 after our beloved cockapoo Rolo became seriously unwell. We were heartbroken to say goodbye and let him cross the rainbow bridge 🌈🐾. Our original plan to continue on to Morocco was placed on hold as we focused on healing and honouring his memory. We love to explore, enjoy cycling, running and just generally embrace the great outdoors. Our 2026 travel plans..... We’re now planning our return to the road in 2026, starting with: ✔ UK travels - done for now ✔ South & South Eastern France - current ✔ Northern Spain ✔ Western France ✔ Making full use of our 90-day Schengen allowance This is only the beginning and we’ll be sharing every step as our plans evolve.
