LOST PLACE - Essen Kray - BAD AM PARK - Letzte Bilder vor dem Abriss

The indoor swimming pool in Essen-Kray opened on June 2, 1967, as Stadtbad Ost (East City Pool). Operated by the city, it became privately owned in 1989. On August 1, 2003, Sport-Betriebs-gGmbH, with the Essen Sports Association (Espo) as the leaseholder, took over operations. A 2008 pool assessment by the city was followed by a resolution by the City of Essen on November 26, 2014, which stipulated the pool's closure effective December 19, 2014. Accordingly, the pool has been closed for financial reasons since December 20 of that year. The City of Essen reported annual savings of €392,000. Most recently, the pool was visited by around 75,000 guests per year, including school, course, and club swimmers, as well as 25,000 swimmers during public opening hours. After the building was cleared out and gutted, demolition began in March 2025. Work is scheduled to be completed in June of that year. Afterward, four apartment buildings and a daycare center will be built on the 5,300 square meter site. The Swimming Pool The indoor pool featured a multi-purpose pool, 25 meters long and 12.5 meters wide, with five 25-meter lanes. It consisted of a steel tub on steel supports, embedded in the pool hall. At the western end of the pool was a three-meter diving platform and a one-meter diving board. The water was usually heated to 30°C. Fitness and exercise rooms were located beneath the pool hall. Tanning beds and a sauna were also part of the facilities. Changing rooms and restrooms were wheelchair accessible. The Bounty restaurant was located on the ground floor of the northern part of the building. The entire building was constructed of reinforced concrete, with the swimming pool ceiling insulated with cork. The eastern end of the swimming pool was decorated with a large-scale mural, "Ruhrlandschaft" (Ruhr Landscape), by Essen artist Erich Pilz (1910–2005). It is important to approach the locations with respect and try to capture their history and atmosphere. We distance ourselves from burglary and vandalism. There are two very strict rules for "Urban Explorers": -Take nothing but pictures -Leave nothing but footprints Copyright belongs to Lost Place Hospitant Facebook: Lostplace Hospitant Instagram: lostplacehospitant Like and subscribe - I'd appreciate it Feel free to share the video P+C: 2025 https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/LostP...
