Dittisham, Devon - English countryside village walk, summer morning 4K

Dittisham ( or Ditsum to the locals ) is a village I have visited most years since I was a small boy, in the South Hams district of the English county of Devon. It is situated on the west bank of the tidal River Dart, some 2 miles (3.2 km) upstream of Dartmouth. We start our walk on a beautiful August morning at the top of the village on Higher Street, from where we have a fantastic view up the River Dart toward Stoke Gabriel and Totnes. Then we turn into Lower Street, and head down to Dittisham Mill Creek. The Dart is tidal, and it’s a couple of hours before high tide - the creek is quiet and peaceful, and there’s no sign of the seals that spend much of the day around its mouth. We walk back up Lower Street, heading towards St George's Church, dating from the 14th century.
