¿LA DIDACHÉ PROHÍBE VIVIR DEL EVANGELIO? | El cristianismo NO mantiene vagos | Didaché XII

How far should Christian hospitality go? Should we always help, even if others might take advantage of us? Did the early Church allow people to make a living from religion? In this episode of Unfiltered Catholicism, we study Chapter XII of the Didache, one of the most important documents of early Christianity and the Apostolic Fathers. We analyze how the first-century Church understood Christian hospitality, charity, spiritual discernment, and the duty to help the poor without encouraging abuse or parasitism. The Didache presents an extraordinary balance between mercy and prudence. It teaches that every Christian should welcome a brother or sister who comes in the name of the Lord, but also test them, discern their intentions, and prevent the community from being used by those who turn faith into a means of making a living. We analyze Didache XII verse by verse, discovering why the Catholic Church was already combating false preachers, religious opportunists, and those who turned the Gospel into a business from the very first century. The famous expression "businessman of Christianity" appears precisely in this chapter and remains strikingly relevant today. We will also examine the Church's teaching on work, personal responsibility, hospitality, helping those in need, Christian prudence, and the difference between sustaining a true ministry and fueling the abuse of those who live off religion without truly serving Christ. This study connects the Didache with the Gospel of Matthew, the teachings of St. Paul, Apostolic Tradition, and the enduring doctrine of the Catholic Church. If you are interested in Catholic apologetics, Church history, the Church Fathers, early Christianity, and the oldest Christian documents, this series will help you understand how the first Christians actually lived.
