The Madrid region is experiencing a critical national emergency due to a series of wildfires that have forced the evacuation and confinement of 19,000 people. Two major fire fronts in San Martín and Villa del Prado have merged, advancing uncontrollably towards Navas del Rey and now less than 100 kilometers from the center of the capital. Given the magnitude of the disaster, the government has activated the European civil protection mechanism, receiving air support from Italy and Greece.
