I used to sketch reference images from my pc monitor for hours on end, 12-16 hrs daily from 2014-2021; developing characters, concept art and world design for comicbooks and videos games I wanted to make based on all my original designs. There are some bands that are retiring, which I wanted to see live at least once - and contribute, by sharing the kind of audience generated live shows that were my main background music while I developed my artwork. In honor of the memory of many good years spent sketching in the warmth of a full home, while my parents were still healthy, and the future seemed full of possibility, and my siblings and I were still young and felt capable of anything we set our mind to. It’s a good feeling, to have a family that cares about you unconditionally, and an environment where you can consistently create without interruption. Right now I am fulltime caring for elderly parent, so I can only work on creative tasks briefly, sporadically, with expected interruption – and staying up late to finish projects, results in sleep deprivation, which makes it more challenging to provide care ( cook, and accompany elderly parent on exercise activities that her spouse insists on, which involve fall risk – I can at least mitigate unnecessary falls; building up her immune system and strength, with nutritious meals, and herb and food therapy; she is doing a lot better these days; like the personality I remember before her cancer, and lung issues from cancer drug inflammation side effect, that put her on an oxygen tank) . It’s been a couple years of day to day, intervention. Resigned from work. Full time watching, and caregiving at their home. It is great that she is improving. But requires constant vigilance. The shows I go to are a brief respite from the elderly paradigm - a dynamic immersion in groups of people who are all ages, in an environment, where the focal point is music performance - at a pace that is lively; and always leaves me feeling uplifted, and motivated to be the best I can be; since the act of capturing the performance involves sudden crowd surfers, unknowns and benefits from alert reflexes, and steady arm ( while trying to move to the music), stamina, looseness and control in shoulders, and a good attitude while mingling with fans of the bands I came to see. I always return with a sense of gratitude, and renewed appreciation for the fact my elderly parent is improving, and that I have a chance to apply what I learned in grad school, in the clinic, to help my family member. Despite being otherwise isolated from my own peers, and waiting on the elderly, as a volunteer, while my siblings lives move on, as they pursue happiness, are gainfully employed and I hold on to what is left of my parents, knowing I am spending the same amount of time, for the smiles and grateful words of thanks for the care; expecting someday to return to work, like rip van winkle, a man out of time, surrounded by strangers, and nothing built up to show for my efforts. At least with the concerts and videos, I am pleased to see the shows, of bands I enjoy, which I had a hand in editing, and writing anecdotes, to be found, amidst the live concerts I enjoyed and was transported and inspired by.
