The NDR has 4 musical organizations, two orchestras, a chorus and a "big band": The North German Radio Symphony Orchestra; created in 1945 as the Symphony Orchestra of the NWDR and continued by the NDR under its current name since 1955. Principal conductors have included Günter Wand and John Eliot Gardiner. The NDR Radio Philharmonic; created in 1950 as the Hannover Radio Orchestra of the NWDR and continued by the NDR under its current name since 1955. Principal conductors have included Willy Steiner and Bernhard Klee. The orchestra plays light classical or "concert hall" music. Chor des Norddeutschen Rundfunks — created in 1946 by the NWDR and continued under its current name by the NDR since 1955. The choir specializes in "Alte Musik", but a broad repertory also includes contemporary music. The NDR Bigband; created by the NWDR and continued by the NDR in 1955 as the NDR Studioband. Renamed NDR Bigband in 1971 and, depending on the orchestra composition, sometimes also called the "NDR Dance Orchestra" (Tanzorchester des Norddeutschen Rundfunk). A MAN WITHOUT LOVE In 1968 the single "A Man Without Love" reached number two in the UK Singles Chart and the album of the same name reached number three. The performer was Engelbert Humperdinck, whose version of the original Italian "Quando M'innamoro" became the better known rendition worldwide. The American group "TheSandpipers" participated at the Festival di Sanremo (1968) in Italy, alongside Italian singer Anna Identici with the original song "Quando m'innamoro," and attained sixth place in the competition. MHO A beautiful arrangement of the 1968 worldhit for Humperdinck (the harp at the beginning is fabulous) with the concert orchestra of the NDR Hamburg in good shape and under the direction of Franz Thon. This is one of those melodies that, at least as far as members of the audience who are "not so young anymore" ;) are concerned, has been impregnated in the collective world memory. It's a song I could listen to all day.... probably because of its high "romantic feel" .... Well..... we all have our "shortcomings" haven't we ;-) ? Enjoy the music !
