Amélia Tavella is an architect, head of an agency, multi-awarded for her work. Oddly enough, it is important to emphasize that she is a woman, in a professional environment that is overwhelmingly male. Her temperament comes from her Mediterranean origins. Born in Ajaccio in Corsica, she was immersed in a strong culture, surrounded by landscapes whose beauty she was able to perceive. Growing up on an island means growing up on the sea. With her gaze fixed on the horizon, Amélia understood that beauty was an opening onto the world, a universal language. And what is more beautiful than nature? Her architectural signature, attached to the sensuality of noble and natural materials, is the mark of a constant work on the memory of places. There is a quest for the absolute. Beauty, gesture, the way we mark nature by leaving an imprint, integrating the building, finding balance: this is Amélia's constant questioning. If today, architecture is synonymous with innovation, it must meet the criteria of sustainability, well-being, respect for nature and integrate into the environment. But contemporary architects also want to shake up uses, revolutionize traditional codes and design astonishing buildings. So how can we reconcile these requirements when we touch on a historic building? This will be one of Amélia's next challenges at the Nonza convent.
