Eugene (Hutz of Gogol Bordello), the whole interview
4 years ago, I came across this old 2005 interview with Eugene and enjoyed it so much, I thought of sharing it. This is what I wrote in my diary: "... my thoughts keep coming back to the theme of TIME. How it is passing. Somehow, I have only just realized that 15 years, 15 YEARS, have passed since getting that material. .(......) Is it really old news? To find out, I type Gogol Bordello in Google and click on News to see what these guys have been up to, if anything at all. An interview with Eugene pops up, I skim-read, and a paragraph jumps at me: “When we all get to dance around the fire together – metaphorically or not metaphorically speaking, because the show gets quite fiery – there is nothing else quite like it,” Hütz said with a laugh. He then continues: “My job is to bring joy, energy and fresh vibes into the air [and] help people recharge their energy to deal with the rest of the world. That’s what I get from art and music. Everybody around the world has their own shit to deal with, and day-to-day we need joy. Hopefully, we can create a situation where people can recharge for a couple of hours.” I smile to myself. Nothing has changed. The interview I have here is as relevant as ever. As Eugene says in the same interview from Dec, 2019, just a few days ago, speaking about himself “Your core remains the same.” His does. As does mine. " A little background to the interview: we were both jetlagged, very tired, and clearly, had not planned this interview. It just happened. I didn't put much of the interview inside the film as I don't like talking heads, but I welcome this opportunity to upload it here, in its entirety as I got a lot out of it myself. I have always enjoyed Eugene's stories and his way of relating to the world. I have always found him intelligent, insightful, and very much in line with my own way of thinking and feeling. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. ❤️
