Basic ASL PEOPLE in your FAMILY
Welcome and thank you for joining and allowing me to be a part of your ASL Learning experience! My name is Melissa and I am a CODA (Children of Deaf Adults). I have been a Sign Language Interpreter most of my life from childhood into the professional world, have been teaching and tutoring for over 20+years (high school and college levels) as well as heavily involved with the Deaf and ASL community. As a CODA, ASL is my native language, I grew up with Deaf culture and in the Deaf world. Its who I am and with my life experience; I have witnessed moments where I seen the painful disconnect, lack of communication and relationships and wished more would know how to sign and to create more access with our Deaf individuals, just to make our world a better place. My passion is to teach and share American Sign Language with individuals such as yourself! Especially, To all that have Deaf family members, friends, co-workers, neighbors or just want to learn this amazing, expressive, hands-on language! So congrats and thank you for taking your time to make your community a better place by doing so and I am honored you are joining me and allowing me to be a part of your ASL journey, So welcome!!!! The purpose of these videos are to help you gain more ASL vocabulary, concepts, practice phrases and an opportunity to improve along with encouraging your sign fluency. So Let's begin this journey! These videos are voice interpreted for those who are auditory learners and struggle with learning a non-verbal language and need some help understanding (receptive skills). Each video brings access to those with low-vision blindness for near sighted blindness. For the TRUE ASL immersion experience, after watching it once with the sound on, I encourage you watch the video again and "MUTE" the sound, so you are gaining receptive skills too. If the sign is too fast for you, you can go to settings and hit the “speed” option to slow the video down. When you completed the learning, go to the drop down box and review the vocabulary list, as well as the BONUS ASL sentences. Best wishes, Good Luck and don't forget to show your support… Like, Subscribe, Hit the “bell” option, make a comment or share these videos with others that are interested to learn as well!
