Our first Jamai Shosthi after marriage, and our first one away from home in Bengaluru. I thought the distance would make the day feel different, but somehow it turned out to be even more special. A chance conversation led me to discover that my school friend Reshmi is also in Bengaluru, and her husband’s Mama-Mami own The Clay Hut in Koramangala. What started as a simple plan soon became a beautiful celebration filled with authentic Bengali food, warm hospitality, and familiar flavours that instantly brought back memories of home. To make the day even more meaningful, we wore the outfits lovingly sent by my mother. And although my parents were miles away, they were still very much a part of the celebration—sponsoring our entire meal and showering us with their love from afar. Sitting in a cozy corner of Bengaluru, enjoying a traditional Jamai Shosthi feast, surrounded by unexpected connections and heartfelt gestures, I realized that home is not always a place. Sometimes it’s the love that follows you wherever you go.
