How to Make a Bas-Relief (Tutorial) - Human Made Mark

In this video I show you how to sculpt a bas-relief onto a board in water-based clay, then make a simple waste-mould and cast it in hard plaster. I made this video to support The Human Made Mark campaign, which strives to support human-made films as they are being threatened by gen AI. I believe that the magic of film is the collaboration of creative people coming together to realise ideas. When I used to work in the film industry as a sculptor, much of the work was creating bas-relief panels such as architectural detailing, caryatids, mascarons and gargoyles etc to adorn the sets. I thought that sharing this instructional process video would be a fitting tribute to just one of the thousands of creative processes that could be lost if human made films were to be replaced by AI. If you would like a detailed description in step-by-step photos on how to make a silicone mould and Jesmonite cast, please check out my ‘Moulding and Casting’ E-book on my teaching website www.sculptingmasterclass.com 00:00-00:54 - prepping the board 00:54-01:27 - packing clay on 01:27-02:44 - 'The Human Made Mark' 02:44-03:43 - getting your image onto the clay 03:43-05:25 - creating the relief image in clay 05:25-07:22 - creating a plaster waste mould 07:22-07:37 - prepping for casting plaster 07:37-09:15 - casting the mould 09:15-09:56 - breaking off the waste mould 09:56-10:21 - finishing off #mouldmaking #moldmaking #plasterwastemould #Basrelief #wastemold #Reliefpanel #Mouldingandcasting #howtomakeamould INSTAGRAM: @ameliarowcroftsculpture WEBSITE: https://www.sculptingmasterclass.com FACEBOOK:   / ameliarowcroftsculpture
