Unlike the official Pride March, it is intentionally non-corporate, community-led, and open to everyone. It celebrates drag artistry while honoring the activists who helped launch the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement after the Stonewall riots. The Drag March began in 1994 during the 25th anniversary of Stonewall. It was organized after drag performers and leather community members felt excluded from some official Pride events. Among the organizers was Gilbert Baker, who helped create a march that embraced visibility, protest, and inclusion. Since then, thousands of participants have gathered every year. 2026 Annual NYC Drug Morch Honors drag performers, who played a major role in LGBTQ+ activism. Celebrates self-expression, creativity, and community. Remains a grassroots demonstration rather than a commercial parade. Serves as the traditional kickoff to NYC Pride Weekend, ending near the historic Stonewall Inn.
