Living Pathways: A Simple Way We Improve Soil Health
🌱 Why do we grow grass between our vegetable rows? In this video, we’re showing you our living pathways and explaining why they’re an important part of how we care for our soil. Our production fields currently use plastic mulch because it helps conserve moisture, suppress weeds, and keeps many of our crops cleaner. We also till these fields before planting. While those practices work well for our farm today, we’re always looking for better, more sustainable ways to grow. That’s where our living pathways come in. The grass between our rows helps reduce soil erosion, improves water infiltration, supports beneficial soil life, reduces mud and compaction, and makes it easier for us to work in the fields throughout the season. As it’s mowed and breaks down, it also adds organic matter back to the soil. Farming is all about learning and improving. Every season we evaluate what worked, what didn’t, and where we can do better. Our goal is to continue moving toward healthier soils while growing safe, high-quality food for our family and yours.
