NYC Subway: Chambers Street - The Most Rundown Station in the System
Today’s film portrays the Chambers Street station on the BMT Nassau Street Line in the Civic Center district of Lower Manhattan. The station has once been a major hub of the BMT (Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit Co.) but has since deteriorated into dire shape. It has four tracks, three island platforms and two side platforms, from which many are closed today. It is served by (J), (Z) and (M) trains. It is only fitting that the (J) service is operated with very old R32 and R42 stock trains. The film shows the station in its current shape with some R32 and R42 trains, but also some newer R160 (M) trains. Enjoy! Filmed on 13 June 2015. ERRATA: The R42 stock has been manufactured in the late ’60s; not in the 90’s, as claimed at minute 5:44 by the subtitles in the film.
