To silence him, the union orchestrates his murder by deliberately dropping a crate of Irish whiskey on him during work, making it appear as an accident. Following this, Father Barry (Karl Malden) delivers a powerful speech over Kayo's body in the ship's hold, condemning the workers' silence.
