Ethno-sociologist of heritage sciences, Université Laval Teacher-researcher: LADIREP, P-HMP | UEH The Haitian musical landscape of the second half of the twentieth and the beginning of the twenty-first century has suffered the political and social turbulence of the Duvalier era and after. However, if these tremors have favored the valorization of Vodou music, they have modified urban musical practices. The changes recorded in the political field of the time were accompanied by a social demand for an art of protest. Very often mimetic, all forms, all musical genres in Haiti were then questioned. Exploring other music, they sought to [re]position themselves as the mouthpiece of the protesting "people". He is also the bearer of a project on art as a vector of transformation in African urban space. ABSTRACT: -- THE POETIC LYRICISM IN AFRICAN FOLK TALES AN ANALYSIS NGOSO SONGS FROM DUALA PEOPLE. By investing in traditional singing poetry from the duala people of Cameroon, an idea of modest lyricism emerges which is opposed to Western perception. This is because generally in this so-called African space, we discover epic societies in which shame and weakness are vices of the soul. By studying “ngoso”, a traditional folk rhythm by the duala the aim was to show how in traditional African societies singular rituals of expression of passion and affection developed. without offending the morality of a world which abhors vice and ostentatiousness. #research #caribbean #music #scholar #africa #black #meagansylvester #afro #recherche #investigacion #musica #chercheur #trinidad #tobago #queenscollege #professor #caraibes #musicology #sociology #anthropology #ethnomusicology #NewYork #talk #conference #USA #Calypso #Ragga #Soca #identity #cultures #resistance #popularmusic #musicsociologist #author #cameroon #journalist #podcaster #trinidadandtobago #Steelpan #kaisoJazz #AfricanDiaspora #CaribbeanStudiesAssociation #AssociationofBlackSociologists #vocalist #voice #polyphonies #polyrhthmics #nyc Host: Gino Sitson, PhD This exploration delves into the multifaceted nature of vocal expression: from the precise mechanics of articulation and diction to the emotive power of declamation and the expressive freedom found in both spoken and sung forms.
