Triumph Bobber | Upgrading the rear tyre from 150 to 170 | DIY Removal

Note: I’m not a certified mechanic. I work on my own bike simply because I enjoy it, and it feels rewarding. Everything I do is based on what I’ve learned from my Haynes manual and YouTube. I recently swapped out both the front and rear tyres on my Bobber because they were getting a little old. Even though there was still plenty of tread left, the rubber felt harder compared to new ones. The manufacturing date was 2018, which makes them about seven years old. I’ve also always felt that the stock 150 rear tyre looked a bit too thin, so I upgraded to a 170. There’s plenty of chain clearance, and from what I understand, the stock swingarm and rims can technically fit a 180—but that’s where it starts getting really close to the chain. Plus, running a 180 on the stock rim tends to create cupping, which effectively gives you the same usable width as a 170 anyway. Just a small fun fact I thought I’d share. Anyway, this is how I remove the tyres on the Bobber. I didn’t film the installation, but it’s essentially the reverse of taking them off. The only thing you need to pay extra attention to when reinstalling the wheels is chain tension. I’ll try to make a separate video on that soon. If you already know how to set chain tension properly, then you’re good to go! Approximate time: Removing both wheels while filming the process — about 45 minutes.
