Leatherman Surge: Illegal to carry in the UK? How to change it?

I got this delightful Leatherman Surge Multi Tool, it is completely legal to use in the UK as a tool, but carrying it without good reason is illegal. Two things make it illegal, a locking blade and a blade longer than 3 inches, any one of those makes it illegal, this tool has both, so maybe make the tool shorter, to be under 3", and cut off or bend back the locking mechanisms.
