Affaire Wassim : FBI saisit pour crime de haine, Tebboune exige justice contre les 35 Marocains

In the Wassim case (the young Algerian-American man lynched by a group of Moroccan fans in the United States during the World Cup), the FBI has officially taken over the investigation. American authorities classify the events as a hate crime, due to the anti-Algerian insults and the clear communal motivations. The 35 Moroccans arrested face very heavy sentences (up to 25 years each) for premeditated aggravated assault and hate crimes. Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune reacted: He spoke publicly to denounce "a barbaric and unacceptable act" and demanded that justice be served. He promised his full support to Wassim's family and called on American authorities not to downplay the case. This intervention reinforces the diplomatic and communal dimension of the tragedy, which is already being closely followed in Algeria.
