What Happened to Mascot Horror?

Mascot horror has fallen so far. What started as creative, experimental horror has turned into an oversaturated mess of cheap scares and merch-driven sequels. From Poppy Playtime’s controversies to Garten of BanBan’s chaos, the genre that started with Five Nights at Freddy’s has lost its edge. In this video, I explore how mascot horror became oversaturated, the scandals behind it, and how smaller indie devs are doing horror right. Disclaimer: It is my personal opinion that mascot horror has problems, but there are also factional holes in the genre such as the Poppy Playtime controversy that will be discussed.
