Why HBO Keeps Putting Famous Faces in Danger

Season three of House of the Dragon opens with the same battle told two completely different ways.In George R.R. Martin's book, a lowborn girl named Nettles earns a wild dragon through weeks of patience — bringing him a dead sheep every day until he trusts her. She's also the only character in the entire book confirmed to be Black.The show erased her completely. Her dragon, her storyline, even her method — handed to an actual princess instead.Meanwhile, Lord Corlys Velaryon doesn't personally fight in this battle in the book at all. He commands from the sea and survives, delivering one of the most quoted lines in the series: "If this be victory, I pray I never win another."The show gives him a sword anyway. He gets knocked overboard, presumed dead.Two characters who prove their point by NOT being at the center of the violence — repurposed so they could be.This is my theory, not a confirmed HBO statement.
