Bougainville is a small island of around 300,000 residents. It's currently part of Papua New Guinea, but it wants to break away and become its own nation. One of the things that makes this island so special is its ability to thwart Chinese influence. In this episode of China Unscripted, we look at the history of Bougainville, how its leader, Ishmael Toroama, is sticking it to China, and how China factors into Bougainville's bid for independence. Joining us in this episode is John Kuhns, the chairman and CEO of Numa Numa Resources in Bougainville.
