Mrs Maggie Cowie - Buckie Heritage Interview
Maggie Cowie stayed in the ‘Yardie,’ one of the oldest parts of Buckie where the houses were built gable to the sea with lanes running between the houses. Maggie started work at Marshalls net factory but later went to the herring gutting, travelling around the ports from Lerwick down the east coast of Scotland and then south to the English ports of Lowestoft and Gt Yarmouth. In this interview she tells of her experiences and what life was generally like in the 1920’ and 30’s. The original interview was carried out in July 1988. The interview has been voiced by the ‘Buckie Blethers’ in local dialect.
