How Much Does It Cost To Buy A Load Of Logs For Our Sawmill? // How To Scale Logs // Buying Logs In this video, we share a load of logs being delivered to our property. We also share how we found the logs, when we had them cut, the cost, scaling the logs and the difference in the logging company compared to how Greg scales them and is one way better than the other? We also share why we purchased logs, when we already have what seems like a lot. We are building a good sized barn and it is going to take a lot of logs. We also have to look at the time it takes to cut down trees on our own property, the clean up, the burning, the whole process takes quite a bit of time. Greg has a full-time job, so the projects on our property happen on his days off, so we also have to look at how is Greg's time best used. And in this case, it wasn't more logging. Purchasing logs was the better option...we think. What do you think? ***If you haven't checked out our Sawmill Cover Build from the beginning, definitely check out the playlist at the end of this video. We have shared the process of building this sawmill cover from the very beginning. We have a Woodland Mills HM130 Max sawmill and live in North Idaho. This sawmill cover / sawmill shed is vital to continue milling in the winter months, but it will also be a great way to keep out of the sun during the summer months, and of course all of the rain, in between! We are excited to complete this project, so we can continue milling lumber for our barn build. Here are the specs on the sawmill cover / sawmill shed we are building: 3 posts in the front 4 posts in the back Overall dimensions are 15 feet wide by 36 feet long Longest beam is 28 feet Front part of the lean to roof is 11'9" and back is 8' It will have a 3 :12 pitch Posts and beams are going to be 7 1/2" x 7 1/2" We will be sharing the entire build!
