Come with us and explore around Cefalu, the North of Sicily as we speand a day at Castel di Tusa, a small seaside village. It gets its name from a 13th-century castle. The coastal town served as a port for the ancient Greek-Sicilian city of Halaesa Archonidea. Halaesa was a wealthy trading center founded around 400 BC. Ancient Roots: The ruins of Halaesa sit on a nearby hill. Greek and Roman people used the coastal area for trade and shipping. The Medieval Era: During the Arab and Norman invasions in the Middle Ages, people moved to the hills for safety. The Castle of Tusa was built 600 meters above the sea to watch over the shore. Modern Art: The coast is now famous for the Fiumara d'Arte. This is one of Europe's largest open-air museums. It features large sculptures made by modern artists.
