Before Electricity: Inside a 400 Year Old Bell Foundry : Full Documentary
Before Electricity – Part 1 takes us inside a 400-year-old bell foundry in Germany, where traditional bell making is still carried out entirely by hand. 🔔 This chapter focuses on the first and most critical stage of bell founding: designing the acoustic profile and building the clay mold that will shape the bell’s sound and form. ⚙️ From calculating the bell profile with the schablone to constructing the brick core and applying successive layers of clay mixed with natural materials, every step demands precision, experience, and patience. 🔥 The mold is slowly dried and fired by hand, ensuring stability and accuracy before any metal is poured. Even the smallest deviation at this stage can permanently affect the bell’s tone. 🔔 Before Electricity: Inside a 400 Year Old Bell Foundry – Part 2 | Casting & the Birth of the Bell 🔥 This episode follows the final stages of traditional bell casting inside a 400-year-old bell foundry, where clay molds are prepared, assembled in the casting pit, and filled with molten bell bronze. ⚙️ The process moves from mold dismantling and graphite treatment to controlled pouring, slow cooling, and the moment the bell is revealed after days underground. 🏗️ Filmed on site, the video documents real working conditions, manual tools, and strict technical routines used by bell founders to control form, weight, and sound.
